Recently, Syl Wilson Marketing was chosen as the prime website design firm for Family Development Services (FDS) in Indiana. The former website had a clunky back-end making images slow to render. The main menu was very hard to navigate to find the core items needed. We re-designed the site with a mobile friendly version, new and improved navigation and also provided content development services. We are proud to say “Welcome to your new online home, FDS!”
This was a fun project from the start to the finish. We were able to interview current employees and staff to get to the core values of the company. FDS is a head start program, they are doing amazing things for the community and we are PROUD to have been a part of this amazing journey. We look forward to partnering on future projects.

Recently JWAJ Properties company hired Syl Wilson Marketing as the Prime to redesign their website. The new website features a one-page design that is beautiful and user-friendly. The new layout is more focused and gets the target audience the information they want the most quickly. The website previously was mired in information that made it hard for users to get the most important data.

Recently Washington University in St.Louis commissioned Syl Wilson Marketing to design a website for the “Safe Return to Schools” for children across the country with disabilities.
The website summarizes the recommended best practices for returning safely to school, based on information from the Washington University Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center working with staff at the Special School District of St. Louis County, Missouri through the COMPASS-T project.
It has been an honor to have been a part of such an important and vital project during these unprecedented times.

In today’s age of digital marketing and almost every target audience using the internet for information, it is imperative that every business has a website. Yet we come across at least ten businesses a week that have been operating without a website and have seen a slowing trend in sales. Sounds crazy right?
If you are one of the 10 in 100 that are trying to market your business without an online presence, I would highly recommend reading the rest of this article on the growing importance of web design in 2018.
Responsive Web Design
In order for your website to appear over all platforms (Mobile vs. Laptop vs. Tablet) you will want to make sure that your website developer is quoting you a responsive website that automatically adjusts based on the device that opens it. Responsive website rank higher in search engines than those that are only optimized for desktops. Additionally, as of December 2015 according to comScore, there was an 80% increase in Internet usage coming from smart phones rather than desktop machines.
Search Engine Optimization
If your website developer/designer is well versed ini search engine optimization, that is a PLUS! If not, you will want to make sure you get a proposal from a reputable company that provides that as a service. In the old days, website designers would load the back-ends of website with keywords that would cause search engine spiders to stop on a site regardless of what content was actually on the website. The evolution of technology however, search engines have become much smarter and will only index on websites that have rich content that is relative to the main purpose of the website.
Clean Designs
As you research the right webs design company to use, be sure to look at their previous work. That may sound like a “given,” but you do want to make sure they have designed in several different type of platforms. If they only know how to design in WordPress for instance, then they will be more likely to push your design that way. But if they are experienced in several platforms like Joomla, Drupal, Light CMS, WordPress and hard code, then you will have a better chance at getting a website that is a good fit for your organization. You will also want to make sure that they are using designs that are not just a template, but are custom to each of the companies they designed for. Several website designers only take a template (or theme) and change out photos and content. You want to make sure that your company is being properly branded to your existing marketing collateral so that people can see your website as your online home or brochure. It should be an extension of the marketing brochures and flyers that you have already passed out.

Several months ago, the most important client of my life asked me to design a website to showcase his art collection. It was my hero, my father! How could I say no? My dad, Sylvester Peebles, has been drawing and painting for as long as I’ve been alive. He has had artwork showcased in the St. Louis Art Museum and won first place in several art shows over the past few decades. One funny story he shared with me was the time he and my sister entered the same contest for art, (I think it was the Creve Coeur Days art show) and he said that he won second place and my sister (who would have been about 7 years-old) won first place. The only issue with that was first place won $100 and second place won a ribbon. My sister was crying because she did not want money; she wanted the ribbon. Ah to be young again.
