Dreaming Big

bigstock_Illuminated_Bulb_7378553A few days ago someone close to me told me to, “Do something different today that you thought you couldn’t do. Really challenge yourself.” At first I thought, oh what a nice little pick me up. But as the day wore on and I was in my normal routine, I realized…We all do the same thing over and over even if we have a lifestyle that allows us to do interesting things each day. I thought to myself, when is the last time I actually tried something that I am not good at? I couldn’t recall. So I began. I used the online training tools that were available to me to take a webinar on Microsoft SharePoint. This may seem very easy to some people. But my goal with Microsoft SharePoint is one that is different that most. I would like to be able to design websites in it. As with any new program / software however, you must start with the basics at the beginning. This can be the most difficult part for me. To sit through what I might think is useless information going over things that I “think” I already know.

As I sat and listened to the one-hour webinar I realized something…I do not know everything there is to know about the basics of Microsoft SharePoint. This is probably one of the most complex applications I have come across! If there is one thing I love it’s a challenge and complexity within software. What happened through my hour long journey was so much more than just a webinar.

There was self-reflection of seeing that I tend to think I know more than I actually know. There was a feeling of self-worth from being able to grasp what was being presented even though at one point I thought I was lost. Lastly, there was fulfillment. Being a person who loves to design, conceptualize and bring other people’s ideas to life, this was something that for me, is a requirement on pretty much anything I do.

So what does all of this mean? I think that what this person was trying to tell me was DREAM BIG and dream big every day. Challenge yourself at least once a day. If you do that, you will find self-reflection, self-worth, and fulfillment in your life at the end of every day.

Be well!
